The Saviour’s Intercession And The Stranger’s Prayer
These words form a part of Solomon's prayer at the dedication of the temple, which he built according to God's promise to David, and by divine direction. Solomon was a lively type of the Lord Jesus. His very name is blessedly applicable to Christ—the word "Solomon” signifying peaceable, perfect, or who recompenses. And truly Jesus is peaceable; His errand to earth was an errand of "peace" (Luke 2:14). He is emphatically called "our peace” (Eph. 2:14). The covenant of which He is the Surety is designated a "covenant of peace” (Isa. 54:10); the legacy He has bequeathed to His people is a legacy of "peace" (John 14:27). What a mercy for those who can truly say of Him, "He is our peace”! All of us…

Clean Hands Essential To Communion With God
Three of the great blessings to be tasted in measure here, and enjoyed immeasurably hereafter, by the saints of God, are salvation, sanctification, and communion. Salvation frees from the damning consequences of sin; sanctification from its domination and pollution; and communion is, getting beyond its hindering power. The first of these blessings is so complete that there is no adding to or diminishing from it. "It is finished," and always the same to every child of God. In the knowledge of salvation there may be, and is, great variety amongst the people of God; but with regard to the thing itself, there is no difference. The feeblest soul that, with the most trembling and dim faith, has fled to the cross, and there rested for…

Pastoral Counsel
My Dear People, to whom it has pleased the Lord to lead me to preach the Word of life, you have a very large place in my affections, and often are my thoughts wafted across sea and land to you collectively and individually, and, what is of far more importance, my desires for your souls' welfare are often wafted to the Eternal Throne. What a mercy is a mercy-seat, the blood-sprinkled meeting place of the saints, wherever they may be cast by the providence of God. If we get nearness to the throne of grace we cannot be far distant from each other. This nearness is a blessing I earnestly wish both for myself and all saints, especially for the saints meeting at Clifton Chapel.…

The Life And Ministry Of Septimus Sears
The life of every gracious man has in it something worthy of record; for, while all are brought to know the Lord (Jer. 31:34), and so possess "eternal life" (John 17:3), the time it may take and the means used to that end greatly vary. Some are called, like Josiah, very early to seek the Lord God of their father; while others, although more rarely, are convinced of sin and saved by grace, like the dying thief, at the eleventh hour. The prayers of some may receive as speedy an answer as Saul's did, who, in three days after his call, was manifested as a brother to Ananias (Acts 9:17); whereas others, like Cornelius, shall be unknown unto the disciples for years, until at length…

Nearness To The Throne Of Grace
The Following Letter Was Written From France To The Church And Congregation At Clifton. My Dear People, to whom it has pleased the Lord to lead me to preach the Word of life, you have a very large place in my affections, and often are my thoughts wafted across sea and land to you collectively and individually, and, what is of far more importance, my desires for your souls’ welfare are often wafted to the Eternal Throne.
