The Life And Death Of John Kemp
Gospel Standard 1932:
Death. Mr. John Kemp, Pastor of “Ebenezer” chapel, Bounds Cross, Biddenden, entered into his eternal rest, on October 22,1932, aged 82 years.
During the painful affliction which confined him to his bed for about 13 months, he was kept very patient, and often spoke with tender appreciation of the constant and devoted nursing of his beloved wife.
In regard to spiritual things, he did not speak for the sake of talking; and some of his friends were surprised he said so little, but when he did speak it was with emphasis and feeling.
Some of these remarks will be treasured by his loved ones, and friends. His end was very peaceful, and thus closed a long and useful life, during which, as a sinner saved by grace, and ordained by the Holy Spirit to the gospel ministry, he sought to exalt a precious Christ, in faithfulness and affection. He was much loved and esteemed by the people of God, and highly respected by the world around for his consistent life, and the kindly interest he manifested in their welfare.
A large gathering of friends assembled from far and near at the funeral on Saturday, October 29th, at Biddenden. It was estimated that nearly six hundred were present on that occasion.
Mr. J. K. Popham conducted the service, and spoke with much feeling of the departed one, as his oldest friend in the ministry. It is hoped that further particulars will follow in due course.
